Privacy policy

THE SHORT VERSION
01Who I am
I'm Gabriela Olivera, a data analyst based in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand. In this policy, "I" and "me" means me, and "you" means anyone who visits this website, gets in touch, or works with me. I follow the Privacy Act 2020 and its Information Privacy Principles.
If you have any question about your information, email me at hello@gabrielaolivera.nz.
02What I collect
WHEN YOU GET IN TOUCH
Your name, your email address and anything you write in your message. If you choose to tell me about your business, I keep that too.
WHEN YOU WORK WITH ME
The business records you send for your project, such as sales, customer, product, supplier or delivery data. These records may include personal information about other people, for example your customers' names. I also keep the details I need to run the project and invoice you.
WHEN YOU VISIT THIS WEBSITE
This website does not use cookies. To understand which pages are useful, I use GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly analytics service that counts visits without cookies and without identifying you. It records things like the page visited, the referring website, and your browser, screen size and country, not who you are.
The "Ask your numbers" box on the small business page works entirely in your browser. Nothing you type there is sent or stored.
The website is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub may log technical details such as your IP address to keep the service secure. I don't have access to those logs.
03How I use it
- To reply to your message and tell you which plan fits.
- To deliver the work you asked for: cleaning, analysing and reporting on your data.
- To invoice you and keep the records the law requires.
- To publish a case study, only with your written approval (see section 08).
I don't sell your information, I don't use it for marketing lists, and your data is never entered into AI tools.
04Your clients' and customers' information
When your records include personal information about other people, I hold it on your behalf, only for your project. Your business remains responsible for that information under the Privacy Act, and I only use it the way you've asked me to.
05How I keep it safe
- Before we start, I set up a private Microsoft OneDrive folder just for your project. Files are shared through it, not as loose email attachments.
- The folder is protected with two-step verification.
- My laptop uses full-disk encryption and up-to-date antivirus software.
- Only I have access to your project data.
06Who else sees it
Nobody, except the services I use to run my business, and only as far as they need to:
- Formspree, which delivers messages from the contact form on this website to my inbox.
- Microsoft (OneDrive and Excel), to store and work on your project files.
- GoatCounter, for the cookie-free visit counts described in section 02.
I would only share information with anyone else if the law requires it. Some of these services store information on servers outside New Zealand. I choose providers with strong security protections, and I take reasonable steps to make sure your information is protected in a way that is comparable to New Zealand law.
07How long I keep it
- Project data: deleted within 30 days of your project finishing. For ongoing plans, within 30 days of the plan ending.
- Messages from the contact form: kept for 12 months, then deleted, unless we start working together.
- Invoices and business records: kept for 7 years, as New Zealand tax law requires.
08Case studies
Nothing about your project is published without your written approval. Any case study changes all figures and the names of your customers, suppliers and other private details, and your business name appears only if you choose.
09Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Email hello@gabrielaolivera.nz and I'll reply within 20 working days, usually much sooner.
If you're not happy with how I've handled your information, please tell me first so I can put it right. You can also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
10If something goes wrong
If a privacy breach happens that could cause serious harm, I will tell the people affected and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as soon as practicable, as the Privacy Act requires.
11Changes to this policy
If I change this policy, I'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how I handle a current client's data, I'll tell them directly.
Questions about this policy? Email hello@gabrielaolivera.nz.
